About the artist

Based in the French Alps, Philippa Langrish is an award-winning Morzine artist and writer whose work explores our emotional and cultural connection to the natural world. Living in the heart of Haute-Savoie, she shares her passion for creativity through immersive art workshops in Morzine and Yvoire. Recognised as both a French Alps landscape artist and contemporary painter, Philippa works across a wide range of mediums including watercolour, oil, acrylic, digital art, and traditional printmaking techniques such as cyanotype.

As a contemporary artist inspired by landscape, identity, and storytelling, Philippa creates layered works that combine portraiture, figurative painting, and alpine landscapes. Her art often incorporates natural textures, maps, handwritten words, and symbolic imagery that reflect themes of roots, memory, cultural identity, and personal journeys. Her paintings are collected internationally and installed in private homes, hotels, and offices across locations including Paris, London, New York City, Miami, Australia, India, Philippines, and the French Alps.

Philippa is a member — and 2026 artistic programmer — of the Association Espace Enchanté in Yvoire, and previously belonged to the Printmakers Association of the Philippines. Her work has been featured in Elle Decoration and on the People's Television Network.

Before settling in France, Philippa lived in Miami for three years and in the Philippines for five years. During this period she staged solo exhibitions at the LRI Design Plaza and Pineapple Lab in Manila, and exhibited at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Shangri-La Makati, and the Vizcaya Museum & Gardens. In 2016, she founded Tableaux Arts, a studio specialising in bespoke artwork for homes, hotels, and businesses.

Inspiration and Themes

Philippa paints portraits, figurative works, and landscapes inspired by history, emotion, and place. Central to her practice is storytelling — each painting seeks to preserve a narrative, memory, or fleeting human experience. Her work frequently explores the journeys people make through life, examining themes of belonging, ancestry, migration, and cultural identity.

Deeply inspired by women’s untold stories, Philippa often centres her work around the heroine’s journey. She is particularly drawn to the emotional bond between mothers and children, as well as the balance between “roots and wings” — the tension between home, identity, freedom, and transformation.

“Give your loved ones reasons to stay, roots to come back to and wings to fly.”

This philosophy flows throughout her work. Whether painting a portrait or an abstract landscape, Philippa seeks to inhabit the emotional world of her subject, approaching each piece almost like an actor stepping into a role.

Known for her experimental and multi-layered approach, Philippa combines mediums such as watercolour, oil, acrylic, spray paint, digital media, and hand-pulled printmaking to create richly textured contemporary artworks. In her 2021 series Her Story, exhibited at Vizcaya, she combined watercolour, acrylic, and digital imagery before printing the final works onto silk, creating ethereal pieces that reflected memory, femininity, and the fleeting nature of time.

Today, Philippa continues to create and teach art in Morzine, offering creative workshops and original artwork inspired by the landscapes and stories of the French Alps.

Taking an art class with Philippa Langrish was a blessing and unique experience. She guided me through different art techniques to complete a few pieces that have sentimental value. She helped me recreate and re-live the moment I came home from he hospital with my baby girl, using the original picture. This now hangs in my daughters room. At first I was skeptical about the class because I didn’t think i had it in me! But Philippa has a way of making things happen. She is very passionate about art and I am happy she is able to share her love with others.”

“I loved taking Philippa’s art class. Her style of teaching is fun, feel good and free-flowing, while giving helpful instructions and tips. She takes her time teaching techniques and gives you examples I loved the warm-up sketches we did at the beginning of the class. They helped loosen you up and become more comfortable with figure drawing. Highly recommended! ”
