Escape to a tranquil pocket of the French Alps for a soulful and immersive art retreat designed for both experienced artists and curious beginners. Nestled in the village of Morzine, our centrally located cosy apartments, and chalet studio space offer the perfect setting to reconnect with nature, recharge your creative energy, and explore new artistic techniques in an intimate and supportive atmosphere. You will also have the chance to work in the artists studio next to the medieval town of Yvoire on the shores of Lake Geneva where there will be the opportunity to sketch and paint the lake views.

The retreat is personally guided by experienced watercolour artist Philippa Langrish, whose work is sold internationally. With many years of experience teaching art to both adults and children, Philippa creates a relaxed, inspiring and supportive environment where guests can explore their creativity and develop their own artistic style

Over the course of four gently-paced days, you'll be guided through watercolour plein air painting sessions and inspired sketch walks through hidden alpine meadows, forest trails, and charming mountain viewpoints that only locals know. Whether you're capturing shifting mountain light on canvas or carving into a fresh lino block, every moment invites deeper connection with the landscape and your own artistic voice.

Between sessions, unwind in the comfort of your own apartment, share nourishing meals made with seasonal ingredients, and let the silence of the alps work its quiet magic.

THURSDAY — LAKE MONTRIOND & ROC D'ENFER

Mountain landscapes in watercolour

  • Morning walk around the spectacular Lac de Montriond

  • Sketching the dramatic Roc d'Enfer

  • Hike through the surrounding landscape to a beautiful waterfall

  • Lunch beside the lake

  • Return to the studio for a watercolour painting session

  • Develop paintings from your morning sketches and observations

  • Dinner at a local restaurant

  • Today is all about translating the drama of the mountains and reflections of the lake into watercolour.

FRIDAY — YVOIRE & THE SHORES OF LAKE GENEVA

Water, wildlife & lakeside life

  • Visit the enchanting medieval village of Yvoire

  • Explore the shores of Lake Geneva

  • Walk through Domaine de Rovorée – La Châtaignière

  • Sketch the lake, local wildlife, boats and fishermen

  • Gourmet buffet lunch at La Châtaignière

  • Afternoon studio session in the artist's studio overlooking Lake Geneva

  • Continue developing your sketches into finished watercolours

  • Walk along the beautiful beach at Excenevex

  • Dinner at a local restaurant

An inspiring day exploring the relationship between the lake, its people and the surrounding landscape.

SATURDAY — ALPINE WATERFALLS & CREATIVE TIME

Painting the wild landscape

  • Breakfast followed by a morning hike along the Dranse River

  • Walk to the spectacular Nyon waterfall

  • Pause along the river for sketching and observation

  • Return to the chalet studio for a watercolour painting session

  • Time to work independently, relax or explore at your own pace

  • Dinner at a local restaurant

A slower, more spacious day to bring together the techniques and inspiration gathered throughout the retreat.

SUNDAY — FAREWELL

Time to take your paintings home

  • Breakfast

  • Pack up and prepare for departure

  • Transfer to the airport or onward destination

  • Farewell and safe travels

A SMALL RETREAT WITH A PERSONAL TOUCH

With only two small apartments available, the retreat is deliberately limited to two families of up to four people, or a small group of three friends.

This means no large groups and no crowded workshops — just a relaxed, personal experience with plenty of individual guidance from Philippa.

No previous watercolour experience is necessary. Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced painter, the retreat is designed to help you slow down, observe the landscape and enjoy the process of painting in some of the most beautiful scenery in the French Alps and around Lake Geneva.

Head outdoors to capture the sweeping alpine views in watercolour and pencil. We'll explore atmospheric and linear perspective, mountain forms, and expressive mark-making.

Enjoy a delicious outdoor lunch surrounded by wildflowers and birdsong.

2:00 – 4:00 PMStudio Session: Refine & Develop
Back in the studio, refine your morning sketches and watercolours, with guidance on composition, layering, and colour harmony.

5:00 PMAperitifs on the Terrace
Unwind with local wines, charcuterie and local cheeses as the sun softens over the peaks.

7:00 PMAlpine Dinner at the Chalet
Savor a nourishing and beautifully prepared dinner featuring regional foraged ingredients and relaxed conversation.

Day 2: Lakeside Sketching & Printmaking

10:30 – 12:30 AMSketching by the Lake & River Walk
Explore a nearby alpine lake and meandering river path. Sketch reflections, textures, and light on water. Pause along the way to photograph and sketch delicate wildflowers and natural details.

12:30 PMPicnic Lunch by the Lake
Another peaceful, open-air meal, soaking in the serenity of the landscape.

2:00 – 4:00 PMPrintmaking Studio Session
Return to the studio for a focused printmaking workshop. Learn basic relief or monoprint techniques to bring your lake and floral sketches to life in ink and texture.

5:00 PMAperitifs & Sharing Session
Gather for drinks, reflect on the day’s work, and share your creations in a warm, informal setting.

7:00 PMFinal Dinner Celebration
A celebratory meal to close the retreat .
